Point Reyes National Seashore

Our Windiest Day Ever!

Point Reyes National Seashore contains 111 square miles of land and 80 miles of shoreline. When we visited in mid-June it was very cool and windy. There are 150 miles of hiking trails. We walked up the paved road to the lighthouse. The winds were 50 miles an hour and so the hike down the 313 stairs to the lighthouse was closed and we could only walk as far as the visitors center.

After visiting the visitors center we headed to the Chimney Rock Trailhead. The Chimney Rock trail is a 1.75 miles hike out and back. There are many signs to stay on the trail. If you are following All Trails, be careful to follow the park signs instead of All Trails because All Trails shows several other paths that are closed due to saftey concerns and plant rehabilitation. The path is fairly straight out to the point of a narrow peninsula and gives views of Drake's Bay.
