Sahakue, Koosha and Proxy Falls

3 Waterfalls Near Sisters, Oregon

We spent one full day hiking near the Sisters area outside of Bend, Oregon.

Our first stop was Clear Lake. This quiet lake is a wonderful destination for reflection. No motorized boats allowed which makes it popular for paddle boards, kayaks and canoes. Primitive camping and picnic tables are available.

Our second stop was the Sahalie Falls parking lot. It is about a 1/2 mile from Clear Lake. This is an easy walk down to the overlook or you can choose to wander along the river.  Koosha Falls is about 1/2 mile further along the trail so we decided to walk instead of driving to the next overlook.

Our third stop of the day was Proxy Falls. This is technically a one-way trail so we started out counter clockwise through the woods.  The first half a mile is covered in lava rocks with an established trail.  I recommend a trekking pole and good shoes and watch where you plant your feet. The next third of a mile is on a fairly level wooded path. This takes you to the first turn off to the lower falls. There is a nice overlook or you can take the walk to the lower falls which descends and is somewhat uneven.

From there we hiked to the upper falls. This is super interesting because the water basically falls and disappears underground. It comes out down the stream a little ways.

Overall I think we hiked a little over 6 miles total on the day.
